Those of us who have struggled with the assessment of wide reading, close reading and writing Achievement standards finally have a resource to clarify many of the issues and discrepancies that have been long debated!

Learning in the 21st Century

The NZCER has developed a new site called ShiftingThinking - This website provides ideas, tools, and resources for helping people make the shift from 20th century to 21st century ways of thinking about learning.

THE DEPARTMENT WEBSITE IS GO!

After finding myself suddenly at home for an entire two weeks and with a thousand ideas swimming around in my head, I decided to really make a commitment to the online space I’d been promising.. and here it is; The English Department’s very own online presence.

I feel this could be a great way for us to go for the formal department aministrivia, nonetheless there are other vehicles that you may like to explore that further enable collaboration and are a bit more democratic than a monolithic website like this one.

Some of these that come to mind are shared blogs and wikispaces, and even our very own mac sharepoint and macoodle. The reason I went with this as a starting point is because I feel it is the best way to get all the information you need to you in the way that is simplest for you to use. The main thing for me to say is that I’m not trying to stifle or control other methods for collaboration!
